Cowboys Community Foundation

The Ian & Shirley Norman Foundation supports NRL Cowboys House’s Development Achievement Team and the Year 13 Tertiary Pathways Transition program for students and graduates.

Since this partnership started in 2022, we have seen an increase in the number of students considering and confident in applying and accessing tertiary education pathways.

Cowboys Community Foundation

Background and Purpose

Cowboys Community Foundation is improving employment, health and social outcomes for young people in throughout Northern Australia through education-based programs, addressing barriers they face on their journey through education to employment to adult life.

Our flagship program, NRL Cowboys House provides a culturally-safe, home-away-from-home, offering an unique model of care for 104 young Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander youths from Qld’s most remote communities, enabling them to access secondary education, further education and training or employment of their choice.

Often 3-5 times behind their urban peers in numeracy and literacy on arrival at Cowboys House, students attend one of 13 partner secondary schools in Townsville.
The outcomes and impact are impressive.

The unique model of care empowers Indigenous youth, equipping them with the tools, resilience, and pride necessary to thrive in both their academic pursuits and their cultural heritage and on graduating.

Since opening in 2017, 68 out of 68 young people have successfully attained their Year 12 school certificate and transitioned into further education, training and employment either locally or in their remote home communities.

The Cowboys Community Foundation’s support continues beyond graduation, ensuring self-determination and economic independence for graduates.
