Impact North

“Our partnership with Ian & Shirley Norman Foundation enables us to take a significant step forward in our remote community delivery model - one that’s grounded in years of engagement and learning. It means we can support more remote Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander entrepreneurs with the kind of business development that truly works: sustained local presence, culturally relevant programs, and strong peer networks. By investing in local leadership and capability, we’re helping grow ideas into impactful ventures that create lasting change in community.”

Alexie Seller, CEO, Impact North

“Through the business incubation program, Impact North has given us tools, skills and confidence to grow not just as entrepreneurs but as leaders and community builders. Their support has gone far beyond the technical knowledge, and it has empowered us to become stronger, not just as individuals but as a collective force for positive change. Years later, ELP (Impact North) has given us a space for an office, through collaborative efforts. And this place has become a safe space for us to be inspired, share information with other businesses and find support and solutions."

Background and Purpose

Impact North is a platform for remote enterprise—a space where First Nations entrepreneurs, communities, and partners come together to grow sustainable businesses and lasting impact. We work at the intersection of social enterprise and remote Indigenous business, driving positive change across Australia’s northern regions.

We believe that when we invest in entrepreneurs, they will in turn invest in their communities. When local leaders run businesses in remote communities it means more economic opportunity and employment, greater access to skills and knowledge, role models that inspire future generations and embedded community-driven change.

By delivering a suite of programs and services that are tailored, co-designed, place-based and network-led, then entrepreneurs will increase their skills and agency, grow confidence, build stronger peer networks, develop as strong community leaders and become an inspiration for their community and the region; and eventually, these embedded local leaders will develop thriving businesses that create economic opportunity for their community, and drive change towards a self-determined future.

Entrepreneurs graduating from Impact North’s program:

  • Created 188 new jobs for First Nations people in remote communities
  • Generated $4.1M in revenue
  • 83% are still running their businesses

Compared with the national small business survival rate of 60%, these outcomes are even more remarkable given the complex challenges of operating in remote contexts.

When we invest in entrepreneurs and social enterprises, they create lasting positive change in their communities. Through business and social innovation, dreamers become leaders—and communities grow stronger.
