The Ian & Shirley Norman Foundation have been instrumental in getting this important impact film off the ground. The early stages of documentary work can be the toughest - but with the help of the Foundation, I (Bill Code, director and producer) and our host Lee Constable have been able to start researching and filming with some key players including the Nari Nari Tribal council and The Nature Conservation, getting the nascent film into a position to work with key funding bodies and head into production in earnest.

Background and Purpose

Murrumbidgee: Big Water is an upcoming documentary produced by Wedge-Tail Pictures on a River system that sustains ecosystems, towns, and a multibillion-dollar agricultural industry as it flows from its birthplace in the Snowy Mountains, a thousand kilometres through farmland, wetlands, and the red-dirt interior of New South Wales towards the ocean.

Hosted by science communicator and the daughter of NSW sheep farmers Lee Constable, Murrumbidgee is a global-facing impact film on water that charts a path through Australia’s stunning landscapes to ask how we might better balance the competing demands on our water supplies across the world. It is a series that offers competing alternatives: ecosystem collapse or change, assisted by new technologies and ways of thinking.

This film and its associated impact campaign will highlight the need for a greater understanding of water use, the value of freshwater ecologies, and the need for efficient and sustainable agricultural practices in the decades to come, in Australia and overseas.
