The Ian and Shirley Norman Foundation’s support will be transformative. This partnership gives us stability as we take on the challenge of scaling a social enterprise. Thanks to the Foundation, we can keep young people meaningfully engaged in work while building a sustainable model that will benefit our community for years to come.
One of the things we’ve truly valued about the Ian and Shirley Norman Foundation is how easy they are to work with and their commitment to long-term partnership from the very beginning. It means a great deal to us that they are a like-minded organisation whose values align with ours. They genuinely want to walk beside us and share in our long-term vision for Yilaan.gaal Dhina.
The Tamworth Local Aboriginal Land Council (LALC) was established in 1984 as a Land Council under the NSW Aboriginal Land Rights Act. The Tamworth LALC’s core business is to work for the benefit of Aboriginal people in NSW and in particular our growing member base of over 1100 members and their families.
To fulfil our role the TLALC works in partnership with like-minded organisations who add a broad range of expertise and opportunities that are mobilised to benefit our Aboriginal membership. In addition to our core chartered responsibilities as a Land Council in NSW, we manage a range of programs focused on youth development including Bounce Back, the Tamworth Opportunity Hub, Yilaan.gaal Dhina (Fresh Footprints) and our Post-School Support Officer, as well as programs that work to achieve our cultural goals including Bumbira Arts and Culture Program, the Walaaybaa Rangers and Junior Ranger programs.
Yilaan.gaal Dhina (Fresh Footprints) is the Tamworth LALC’s newest initiative – a co-designed community-led project that helps young Aboriginal people at risk of long-term involvement in the justice system build a new future. The program combines intensive case management, cultural support, accredited training, and paid work experience to foster employability, self-confidence, and positive life choices.
With support from the Ian and Shirley Norman Foundation, the Tamworth LALC is growing Yilaan.gaal Dhina into a social enterprise over the 2025/2026 financial year. This model will secure the sustainability and impact of the program within our community for years to come.
The Tamworth LALC welcomes interest from potential partners to any of our programs. To find out more about what we do, and discuss partnership opportunities, please contact the LALC on (02) 6766 9028 or admin@tamworthlalc.com.au.
