The Footpath Library is Australia’s only mobile library service for people who experience homelessness.
Founded in 2003 by Sarah Garnett, The Footpath Library’s vision “encourages the benefits of reading and connection by giving quality books to people experiencing homelessness”. Over the years, The Footpath Library has given away more than 60,000 books to people experiencing homelessness.
The Footpath Library is supported by numerous book publishers and distributes quality books to people experiencing homelessness through mobile services in Sydney, Perth and Melbourne. They only give books to people that they would be happy to give to a friend or relative. The Footpath Library also donates new knitted goods (i.e. scarves, gloves and beanies) and new socks too in the winter months and provides reading glasses to its service users. Such a unique and innovative service – we are excited to be joining them on their journey!
