Funding from the Ian & Shirley Norman Foundation will allow NRL Cowboys House, the Cowboys Community Foundation’s flagship program, to expand their services to include a Year 13 program.

The Cowboys Community Foundation program will support students who have successfully completed Year 12 to take their next steps into tertiary education while living away from home. Only 57% of Indigenous students in the North Queensland region complete Year 12 compared to 77% of non-Indigenous students. Remarkably NRL Cowboys House had 17 out of 17 Year 12 students graduating in 2020 and twelve Year 12 students graduated in November 2021. Supporting young Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students to complete tertiary education is an important outcome for our nation.
NRL Cowboys House is a joint initiative between the National Rugby League, North Queensland Cowboys, the Queensland Government and the Australian Government. It provides supported accommodation for young Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students from some of North Queensland’s most remote and educationally disadvantaged communities, enabling them to access quality secondary education opportunities in Townsville. It will be ground-breaking to take this program to the next level.
