About Nēwara Aboriginal Corporation

Nēwara Aboriginal Corporation, a non-profit Aboriginal community organisation based on Anaiwan Country (Armidale NSW) committed to the revival & reclamation of Anaiwan language, culture, and history through research & education.

Their vision is to have a place where Anaiwan people can go to revive and practice culture, to revitalise language, and to care for country. Through their impressive Anaiwan #LandBack crowdfunding campaign, Nēwara Aboriginal Corporation were able to buy back nearly 600 acres of their precious Anaiwan high country homelands. They plan for this block of land to be used for cultural camps for Aboriginal kwānga (children) in out-of-home care, on-country Anaiwan language learning, the growing and harvesting of native foods and medicines, gatherings of local Aboriginal men’s and women’s groups, and as a place where Anaiwan people can come together to sing their songs, dance their dances, and share their stories.

Aboriginal land in Aboriginal hands is essential for the survival and revival of culture and identity. It’s also about Aboriginal people reclaiming an active role as custodians of country and playing their part in the fight against climate change. We’re excited to be partnering with Nēwara Aboriginal Corporation and can’t wait to see this project come to life.
